I have oily skin and when I say oily I mean I get acne breakouts daily because of it. If it’s not acne, it’s large pores. But I can tell you a method i’ve been doing that actually works to reduce oil production quite a bit! :D I’ll list these as steps for you to take when washing your face!
1.) Wash twice a day, but more frequently at night.
You need to wash your face when you wake up and before you go to sleep. When you wash your face in the morning, you don’t need to be doing a vigorous 10-step routine. It’ll dry your skin out, cause more oil to produce, and you’ll end up looking slicker than a man’s 60’s haircut. Night time should be the time when you do all the heavy care for your face.
2.) Moisturize!!
I’ve googled tips for oily skin and I was always told to moisturize. It seems kind of counter productive to add “oil” to your already oily face, but it actually works! Choose a moisturizer that has SPF in it and is made for oily skin. In the morning, wash your face with a gentle cleanser or just soap and water; exfoliating with a towel. Once you’re done, take your moisturizer and dab it in spots on your face. Use a small amount (about a pea to a penny sized amount) and work it into your skin in circles. I promise you that your face won’t get oily throughout the day or, depending on the weather, it’ll just take longer for your skin to get oily. In that case, just grab a tissue and blot (pat) your skin to rid yourself of extra oil.
3.) Understand why your skin is oily
It’s because your face is dry. Your body is producing a lot of oils because your skin is dry. Hence you end up overcompensating and you have oily skin. The best way to combat this is by moisturizing a clean face. Your skin will recognize that it’s moisturized and won’t try to produce so much oil. Exfoliating also helps to stop oil production as an accumulation of dead skin and dirt in the pores can truck your skin into thinking its dry, hence more oil is made.
4.) Pampering at night
I use night creams, sugar scrubs, serums, and toner to pamper my face before sleep. You don’t have to use everything that i’ve said but I recommend exfoliate at nught as well. This’ll rid your skin of all the dead cells, dirt, and oil that accumulated throughout the day (use a sugar scrub or a towel). Night creams allow your skin to soak up nutrients and moisturizer while the cells begin their repairs.
5.) Sleep and diet
Oily skin can also occur because you aren’t getting enough sleep which leaves your skin tired, dry, and the cells haven’t done much in repairs. You’ll end up even more oily than before. Watch what you eat too. I LOVE junk food (sorry :c ), and spicy foods in particular will make my skin oily. Since I know this, I can eat spicy foods at home and wash my face afterwards. I’m not telling you to give up foods but recognize what foods tend to make you more oily. Is it soicy foods? Fattier foods? Etc. then try to limit intake of those foods or eat them where you have the time to wash your face afterwards.
Most importantly!!
This is your skin. What I do for me might not work for you. Everyone is different! However, what I listed above is a good start. Try it and eliminate the things that don’t work for you. Oay attention to your skin and see what it likes and doesn’t like.
