We’ve all got rude people around us. They’re everywhere you can find people. Sometimes, the rude person is even you. When you’ve got rude people in your life, you must learn to react correctly to them, otherwise, you might just be setting yourself up for some emotional torture. Here are ways to react to rude people:
1. Don’t react:
There isn’t anything you can do when someone decides to be rude to you. It’s his/her decision, and it’s not under your control. Hence, instead of reacting, just say, “thank you.”
2. The magic word, ‘appreciate’:
Someone might be believe he’s right, but proving his point rudely, in such case say, “I appreciate your perspective, but…<your comment>…”
3. Keep calm. Keep going:
Instead of hearing what the other person is saying, and letting him hurt your feelings, just say, “I think we should stop this conversation right now.”
4. Be clear and explain:
People might not readily know how you feel, you’ll have to make them aware. Let them know clearly, say: “Those words hurt my feelings and please don’t say it again.”
5. Present your point of view:
Say, “you’re right, but…<your comment>…”
6. I love you VS I’m sorry:
Instead of saying I’m sorry, say ‘I’ love you.’ Note, you need to be selective on whom you choose to apply this with. For example, your spouse will appreciate this more than your boss would.
7. Laugh it away:
Laughter kills your enemies. If you’d just laugh at whatever they’re saying, they’ll be greatly discouraged and might even stop talking altogether.
