They may have entered their thirties but Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi still dominate world football.
The two superstars have won the last 10 Ballon d’Ors and their incredible duopoly shows no signs of stopping any time soon.
But the truth is, Ronaldo and Messi won’t be around forever.
Ronaldo turns 34 in February, while Messi turned 31 a few months ago.
And the gap between the duo and the host of players attempting to reach their level will start to narrow.
But which players are in that group that is seeking to take over from Ronaldo and Messi in the years to come?
Paris Saint-Germain duo Kylian Mbappe and Neymar certainly both have aspirations to win the Ballon d’Or in the not too distant future.

And another star that believes he “sits where Messi and Ronaldo are” is Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann.
“It is clear that I am a different player than Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar or (Kylian) Mbappe. I’m at the top but I can improve,” Griezmann said earlier this week.
“I seek to be as complete as possible. I’m not going to score 50 goals, but I’m looking to help offensively and work for the team.
“I think I already sit where Messi and Cristiano are. And I know other players are going to come for sure.”
It’s a big claim - and it’s one that many would disagree with.
One man that definitely disagrees with it is Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.
RAMOS REPLIES TO GRIEZMANN'S CLAIM
On Tuesday, he was asked about Griezmann’s suggestion and replied rather brutally.
"Good question,” Ramos said.
“Ignorance is very bold. When I listen to this kid talk I remember players like Totti who have won everything and do not have a Ballon d’Or.

“Each one is free, but should be advised by Simeone, Godó or Koke that they gather values that would suit them. Still, I think he's a great player.”
